The WIAA unveiled its RPI for the baseball, fastpitch and boys soccer teams, and the conferences in the Stat Hound footprint are well-represented, especially on the baseball diamond.
Unbeaten West Valley, which climbed into the VarsityWA top 10 this week at No. 8, is fourth in the Class 1A rankings. The Rams opened a key three-game series with Eastmont on Tuesday with a 9-6 victory, and two will meet for a double header Friday at Eastmont.
Three CWAC are in the 2A baseball top 10, with Othello No. 2, East Valley at No. 3, and Ellensburg coming in at ninth.
The Red Devils will visit the Huskies on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 11. Both East Valley and Ellensburg are 7-0 in conference play, while Othello is 5-0.
After splitting a doubleheader Saturday, Cashmere and Zillah come in at No. 5 and 9, respectively. The Bulldogs, Leopards and Naches Valley sit atop the SCAC at 5-1 in conference play.
In fastpitch, two SCAC teams are in the top 10 as College Place checks in at No. 3 and Royal is ninth. The Knights, 8-0 in conference play, hits the road Saturday to meet the Hawks (7-0 in SCAC play) for a doubleheader.
Ellensburg, No. 9 in 2A, is the only other fastpitch in its respective top 10.
A trio of CBBN teams round out the 4A soccer top 10, with Eastmont eighth, Davis ninth and Wenatchee 10th.
East Valley is No. 4 in 2A, representing the highest-ranked area soccer team, and Grandview is 10th.
The SCAC’s Cashmere (No. 5), Royal (6) and Wahluke (8) are part of the 1A top 10.
The RPI (ratings percentage index) is made up of three components – winning percentage, opponents’ winning percentage and opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage.
It is one of the tools used to seed the state-tournament brackets.
