After leading Eastern Arizona College to the national championship late last month, Davis graduate Esmeralda Enriquez is raking in the awards.

On Friday, the sophomore was named the 2026 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Year, a day after she was named first-team All-American.

Enriquez scored a team-high 15.7 points per game and helped the Gila Monsters to the No. 1 ranking this season. She averaged 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 a contest, and made nearly 45% from 3-point range.

"She was just a game-changer for us, plain and simple,” said Eastern Arizona head women's basketball coach Angelica de Paulo, the NJCAA Coach of the Year, in a news release. “The way she showed up every day, competed, and led by example, it lifted everyone. Winning a national title is incredible, but what she did for this program goes way beyond that."

In four games at the national tournament, Enriquez averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals for the second-seeded Gila Monsters, and earned tournament MVP honors.

Against New Mexico Junior College in the championship game, Enriquez battled through shooting struggles, but sank two 3-pointers late in the second quarter and another early in the third quarter as EAC overcame an eight-point deficit en route to their first national championship.

Enriquez has not committed to a four-year school, but has posted on her X account that she holds offers from such schools as Tennessee, Southern Mississippi and Seattle.

She played her freshman season at North Idaho College, averaging more than 18 points per game and was voted the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and earned second-team NJCAA Division I All-America honors.

At Davis, Enriquez was the CBBN Player of the Year during her 2022-23 junior season in leading the sixth-seeded Pirates to their first trip to the Tacoma Dome for the Class 4A state tournament.

She was a first-team all-conference selection the following season, as Davis returned as the fifth seed, and eventually finished third. She scored a tournament high 86 points and averaged 21.5 points, which was second-best in the tourney.
