The standings look a bit different Wednesday after plenty of key matchups, and a couple upsets in a busy Tuesday across the Stat Hound footprint.
On the baseball diamond, West Valley stands alone atop the CWAC after the Rams (7-0 CBBN) rode Rhyse Elder’s five perfect innings with 13 strikeouts on the mound in a 6-1 victory against Sunnyside.
Moses Lake (6-1), which began Tuesday tied with West Valley, fell at home to Wenatchee (7-3), 3-2, when a two-out error allowed the eventual game-winning run score in the top of the sixth.
The Mavericks and Panthers conclude the three-games series in Wenatchee on Friday.
Ellensburg (8-0 CWAC) took a one-game lead in the CWAC standings with a 28-0 victory against Toppenish coupled with Quincy’s 3-2 upset of third-ranked Othello (7-1).
Easton Armstrong tripled, doubled and drove in seven runs for the Bulldogs, while the Jackrabbits (3-5) took advantage of a couple walks to push across all of their runs in the third inning, and held on from there.
Cashmere and Zillah both swept doubleheaders to remain knotted atop the SCAC at 7-1.
Selah fastpitch swept Ellensburg 10-3 and 10-2 to leave the Vikings (6-0 CWAC) and East Valley (8-0) as the remaining unbeatens in CWAC play.
Avery Brewer was 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in the opener, and Kyra Rudick had two hits – including a double – and drove in four runs, and Payton Brown hit a two-run blast in the second game for Selah.
Presly Weatherley totaled five hits, one of them a them a two-run homer, as the Red Devils swept Prosser by twin 16-1 scores. Sophiya Castaneda had four hits, three of them doubles, and knocked in five runs in the opener for EV.
It was a split decision in the SCAC showdown between third-ranked Royal and No. 7 College Place resulted in a split decision, and the teams remain deadlocked at 9-1 in SCAC play, and are now behind Kiona-Benton, which is 8-0.
After a pair of nonleague matchups, the Bears next week will meet the Knights and Hawks for doubleheaders.
On the soccer pitch, Davis and Wenatchee remained 5-1 in CBBN play with Friday’s matchup looming.
Quincy and Toppenish both notched CWAC victories and own 4-1 conference records, although the Wildcats own the tiebreaker after edging the Jackrabbits last Thursday.
East Valley, which was idle Tuesday, is a half game back at 3-1.
Wapato beat Wahluke 4-2 and is the lone unbeaten in SCAC play at 7-0.
