East Valley assistant football coach Mike Stevens is headed north.
A defensive coach for the Class 2A semifinalists, Stevens will take the reins of the Chelan program in the Caribou Trail League. He replaces Derek Todd, who led the Goats the past two seasons.
A coach for nearly 20 years in the Yakima area, Stevens also served as the associate head coach at La Salle from 2019-23, and was an integral part of the Grid Kids program in the Yakima Valley.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Stevens to Chelan,” Chelan athletic director Evan Reister said in a release. “He brings tremendous knowledge of football, a strong commitment to education, and a genuine passion for developing young people.”
Greyson, the middle child and eldest son of Mike and Amanda Stevens, is headed to Montana State after an all-state and record-setting season with the Red Devils, who won their first 12 games to win the CWAC and advanced to the state semis for the first time since 2004.
An older sister is a student at Washington State University, and a younger brother, Andrew, is a freshman and will be headed this spring to Chelan to participate in spring practices.
The coach’s wife, Amanda, runs a law practice, but will transition to join the family while maintaining a presence in Yakima.
“Mike is a great coach but a better person,” East Valley coach Eric Berg said. “Chelan is lucky to have to have someone with his knowledge of the game, and he will be able to connect with his players, coaches and community while bringing success to the program. We wish Coach Stevens the best of luck in his next adventure.”
