Cashmere moved up to No. 2 in the latest VarsityWA Class 1A rankings released Monday.
The Bulldogs, who won the district championship and advanced to the state quarterfinals, were third in the last poll.
Tied atop the SCAC with Zillah, which it split a doubleheader with, Cashmere also is second-ranked in the WIAA’s RPI and the Evans Rankings, which pulls together similar components to the RPI, but weighs them differently.
There’s still Saturday’s trip to third-place Connell for the Bulldogs, but the remainder of the schedule is quite favorable with home doubleheaders against Wapato and Kiona-Benton, and a twin-bill at Wahluke.
Cashmere (12-1, 7-1), which has three state championships and four-more placing trophies in the program’s history, is aiming for its first trip to the final four since 2018.
Zillah is seventh in the poll.
In Class 4A, West Valley (12-0) is seventh in the VarsityWA poll. The Rams are the lone unbeaten in the classification, but could be hurt by the CBBN conference, which has a few teams that are struggling.
Othello remains No. 3 in 2A. The Huskies (9-1 CWAC, 12-3 overall) bounced back from a surprise loss to Quincy by sweeping.
East Valley (9-3, 12-4) is fifth in the poll after splitting with Selah on Saturday.
The Red Devils visit Ellensburg (9-1, 9-5) for one game Tuesday, while the Vikings (7-3, 9-5) will host the Huskies at the same time.
VarsityWA’s fastpitch poll will be released Tuesday. For the complete baseball rankings, visit here.
