Conference contenders post sweeps in baseball, softball

East Valley fastpitch remains alone in first atop CWAC, while baseball sees Prosser perfection

QUINCY – It was a day of sweeps on the diamond around the CWAC and SCAC.


All but one of Saturday’s doubleheaders were sweeps, with conference contenders dominating the action.


And in CWAC baseball, Branden Clarke pitched five perfect innings and hit an RBI double for Prosser in a 13-0 opening victory against Toppenish. Clarke struck out 13 of the 15 batters he faced, including the first time through the order, and the fifth inning.


The Mustangs held on for a 7-5 victory in the second game.


In CWAC softball action, East Valley improved to 13-1 in conference play by sweeping at Ellensburg, 11-7 and 12-0.


Reigning CWAC Player of the Year had four hits and seven RBI for the day, and Presley Weatherley had four hits, including a triple and double, and drove in three in the second game.


Selah, 11-1 in the CWAC, took two from Othello – 8-3 and 13-0 – at Ruth Harris Field to keep pace with the Red Devils.

Ephrata topped Quincy 8-0 and 6-3.


In the SCAC, Cashmere beat Connell 11-10 in the opener, and the Eagles bounced back with a 17-7 victory in the second game.


Wapato recorded its first conference victories with a sweep of Wahluke, 14-4 and 15-10.


BASEBALL
East Valley, Selah roll

East Valley’s Braden Albrecht totaled five hits, including a double, and eight RBI in the doubleheader, and Jake Janse and Grady Jansen each drove in three runs in the second game, as the Red Devils (11-4 CWAC, 14-5 overall) swept Grandview, 10-3 and 22-0.


Braxton Young was 7-for-8 with a double, eight runs and eight RBI in the opener, and Christian Keller had two hits, one a two-run double, and drove in four runs as Selah (9-4 CWAC, 11-6 CWAC) swept Quincy. 20-1 and 15-1.




In SCAC action, Cashmere and Zillah remained tied atop the SCAC at 11-1 in conference play with sweeps Saturday.


The second-ranked Bulldogs beat Connell 14-2 and 15-2 with Jacoby Tait having three doubles and three RBI.


No. 7 Zillah took two from Naches Valley, 7-1 and 12-4, behind Caleb Rutherford’s strong pitching in the opener and Jayj Gallegos’ five RBI in the second game.


BOYS SOCCER
Ellensburg shuts out Selah

Angel Aparicio, Alejandro Jasso and Heriberto Villegas each scored goals and the Bulldogs beat Selah 3-0 to move into a second-place tie with Toppenish at 5-2 in conference play.
