WAPATO – After a second-place finish a year ago, the College Place fastpitch team sits atop the SCAC this season.

The Hawks captured the regular-season conference title Thursday with a doubleheader sweep at Wapato, 20-1 and 18-0.

Carly Ray had a big day to lead College Place.

In the opener, she collected three hits, including a three-run homer, and followed that with three more hits, one of them a two-run shot, and drove in five runs in the second game as the Hawks improved to 15-1 in conference and 17-2 overall.

Audrey Schild totaled five hits, including two doubles, and five RBI, and Layla Tonn, Payton Moore and Rio Hayes homered in the opener for College Place.

After missing out last season, the Hawks will try to earn one of the SCAC’s two state berths, or one of the two with the Northeast 1A.

In other conference action, Cashmere and Kiona-Benton split a doubleheader.

The Bears won the opener 11-7, with the Bulldogs bouncing back for a 13-1 victory,

A pair of Friday doubleheaders will wrap up SCAC play and the district tournament begins a week from Saturday.

In the CWAC, Quincy and Grandview split, with the Greyhounds winning the first game, 10-6, whiloe the Jackrabbits took the second, 17-15.
