TOPPENISH – The top seeds opened the CWAC district tournament with convincing victories Saturday, while Sunnyside delayed Davis’ conference championship celebration.

Four different players netted goals for Toppenish, and the Wildcats defeated No. 4 Quincy 4-1 in a first-round game to advance to next Saturday’s CWAC district tournament semifinals.

Ken Morales tallied a goal for the Jackrabbits.

In the other first-round game, No. 2 East Valley got a hat trick from Sonny Garcia and another goal from Josh Vega to beat Ellensburg 4-1 to advance to the semis and avenge Tuesday’s loss that denied the Red Devils an outright conference title.

Ellensburg’s goal was scored by Angel Aparicio.

In play-in games, Othello beat Ephrata 2-1 in double overtime. The Huskies will visit Ellensburg in another loser-put game Tuesday.

Grandview ousted Prosser 2-1, and travels to Quincy on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the semifinals, while the season ends for the loser.

In Friday night CBBN action, Gio Robledo scored two goals after halftime and Luis Marquez added another as Sunnyside beat Davis to deny the Pirates the conference championship.

The Pirates head to West Valley on Friday, and would wrap up the conference title with a win.

Wenatchee, which lost twice to Davis this season, kept the pressure on the Pirates by beating Eisenhower 3-2.

The Panthers would need a Davis loss to the Rams and victories against Eastmont and Sunnyside to repeat as CBBN champions.

Wapato upended Cashmere 2-1 in overtime Friday, but couldn’t deny the Bulldogs the top seed in the District 5 tournament.

The tournament opens Friday with eight loser-out play-in games.

District 5 includes the SCAC, which includes four 2B teams for soccer, and an expanded Caribou Trail League, which adds seven 2B or 1B teams for boys soccer.
