WENATCHEE – For the West Valley baseball team, it’s 21 up and 21 down.

The Rams capped an unbeaten regular season Friday night, sweeping Wenatchee 4-2 and 6-3. West Valley finished 21-0 overall and 18-0 CBBN play.

Going back to last season, the regular-season streak is 39 games, 36 of those in conference.

Next Friday the Rams will try repeat as district champion when they host Moses Lake at 5 p.m.

“They appreciate how difficult it is,” second-year West Valley coach Brooks Archer said of his players. “It takes all 20 guys challenging each other to make each other better.”

As they have all year, the Rams coupled solid pitching with hitting throughout their lineup.

Senior left-hander Alex Morales pitched seven stellar innings, giving up just three hits and an earned run while striking out 15 batters in the opener.

In the nightcap, Ryan Rhoads tossed five strong innings, scattering five hits and fanning seven against a single walk. Sophomore Brody Vigansky followed with two perfect innings, striking out three batters.

Between the two games, West Valley got hits from all nine spots in its batting order.

Lanky senior shortstop Colby Graham keyed the attack from his leadoff spot, delivering four hits – including an RBI triple in the second game after doubling in the opener.

Mason Kovatch had a two-run double in the nightcap, and junior Rhyse Elder, the reigning CBBN Pitcher of the Year, continued his power surge with a solo home run.

Elder had a pair of two-run home runs last Friday against Moses Lake as the Rams wrapped up the conference title.

“We have to have tough outs, one through nine and make them pitch,” Archer said.

MOSES LAKE SWEEPS EASTMONT: At Moses Lake, Kolby Lyons and Dagen Enquist combined on a six-hitter in the opener, while Curtis Cash, Jacoby Mugnos and Enquist did the same in the nightcap as the Mavericks (12-6 CBBN) wrapped up the second seed in the district tournament by taking both ends of the doubleheader, 2-1 and 3-1.

Masson Herrud had two hits and two runs in the second game for Moses Lake.

Bodie Yale had two hits and an RBI in the first game for the Wildcats (11-7).

EISENHOWER, SUNNYSIDE SPLIT: At Yakima, David Gonzalez had three hits, one of them a two-run double, and Cris Casias had three RBI as Sunnyside (3-15) won the opener 11-9.

The Cadets (5-15) won the second contest by the same score. Leadoff hitter Victor Garcia had a three-run homer and an RBI triple for Ike.

FASTPITCH
Three tied for first place

While West Valley’s undefeated trek took the drama out of the baseball race, some sorting out will be needed for the seeding in the district fastpitch tournament.

With West Valley’s sweep of Wenatchee on Friday, and Eastmont and Moses Lake splitting a doubleheader, the Rams, Wildcats and Mavericks all finished 10-2 in conference play.

MOSES LAKE, EASTMONT SPLIT: At East Wenatchee, Ava Garcia hit a three-run home run and Maddie Wood added a two-run blast as Eastmont won the opener, 14-3.

Hayden Morris hit for the cycle, Amilia Borchert had three hits and three RBI, and Mya Martinez had two hits and drove in three runs and the Mavericks outslugged the Wildcats 18-15 in the nightcap.
