YAKIMA – The CBBN regular-season boys soccer championship belongs to Davis.

This time, the standings math checks out.

More than a week after the Pirates had claimed the title only to find out there was still work to do, the Pirates put the race to rest Friday night, handling West Valley 5-0 to wrap up the title.

Davis (10-2 CBBN, 12-3-1 overall) will host Wenatchee (9-3, 12-4) at 6 p.m. Thursday in the district championship.

“We were a little premature, but I’m glad we toughed it out,” Pirates coach Cristian Gonzalez said.

Aiden Munoz netted a hat trick for Davis, the regular-season and district runner-up a year ago.

“It took a little bit, but once we got that first one, it opened things up,” Gonzalez said.

Munoz broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute, and Emmanuel Ruiz made it 2-0 a couple minutes later. Munoz converted a penalty kick to cap the first-half scoring.

Jovani Lugo made it 4-0 eight minutes into the second half, and Munoz scored again in the waning moments.

The Pirates’ return to the district final comes after graduation thinned the roster.

“You always have expectations, but after losing a lot of my guys, I wasn’t sure,” Gonzalez said. “But they stepped up and performed.”

The district final will be a rematch of last year’s pairing, in which Wenatchee won 3-2. Davis won both meetings between the schools this season.

“It’s nice to have our home crowd, and some people who wouldn’t be able to make it to Wenatchee,” Gonzalez. “But it's about getting to state.”

Davis will be looking to return to state for the third time in the past four years.

Eastmont edged the Pirates 2-1 a season ago for the Big Nine’s second state berth.

In Friday’s other action, Sunnyside outlasted Wenatchee, 5-4, and Eastmont rolled past Moses Lake, 7-1.

The Wildcats (8-4, 10-4-1) are the third seed and will host No. 6 Moses Lake (3-9, 6-10) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, while fifth-seeded Eisenhower (5-7, 6-8-2) heads to No. 4 Sunnyside (7-5, 9-7).

The Grizzlies have won four straight, including wins over the Pirates and Panthers.
