WENATCHEE – Seattle U recruit Aaron Leon netted a hat trick to lead third-seeded Eastmont past No. 2 seed Wenatchee to earn the CBBN district’s second berth to the Class 4A state tournament.
The Wildcats (13-4-1) avenged two regular-season losses to their rivals to earn their second straight state berth, and third in the past four seasons. They’ll learn their first-round opponent Sunday when the brackets are unveiled by the WIAA.
As the three seed, Eastmont had to win twice to get to the winner-to-state contest. The Wildcats rolled past Moses Lake, 8-0, and Sunnyside, 6-2, to advance in the six-team bracket.
After a 4-1 won loss 10 days earlier to the Panthers, Eastmont went on a four-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 26-5.
Wenatchee (12-6) was looking to return to the state tournament for the fourth time in five seasons. The Panthers, who fell 4-2 to Davis in Thursday championship match, placed third in last year’s tournament.
SCAC
At Royal City
CASCADE 2, CASHMERE 1: The Kodiaks won the District 5/6 championship on penalty kicks. The Bulldogs (16-3-1), who were the top seed from the SCAC, will be playing in their third straight Class 1A state tournament and would seem in line to host at least a first-round game.
CONNELL 1, ROYAL 0: The Eagles (13-3-2) won to nab the district’s third berth to state, while the Knights (14-3-2) got the fourth. Royal is sixth in the RPI, while Connell is ninth, giving each team a solid shot at hosting a first-round game.
WAPATO 2, TONASKET 1: The Wolves (13-7) won their second straight road game to advance to the state tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.
WAHLUKE 1, OKANOGAN 0: The Warriors (13-6-1) advanced by taking the winner-to-state contest. It’s the eighth consecutive season in which Wahluke has advanced to state.
CWAC
SEHOME 2, ELLENSBURG 0: At Ellensburg, the visiting Mariners ended the season of the Bulldogs (9-9-1), who finished tied atop the CWAC with East Valley and Toppenish. Ellensburg was looking for its first state berth since 2019.
