Grandview's Stokes battles state champ, sits in second place

Greyhounds freshman two strokes of 2A tourney lead, tops strong team showing

Grandview freshman Easton Stokes was paired with two-time defending Class 2A state champion Wyatt Brownell of Burlington-Edison in Tuesday's first round of the Class 2A state golf tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Club.


The CWAC district champion was up to the challenge.


Stokes shot a 1-under 71 and is in second place. Brownell carded a 69 with a late eagle. The two will again be paired for Wednesday’s second round.


It was a strong day for the Greyhounds.


Grady Braman posted a 76 and is in ninth place, with Rhett Braman shooting 80, helping put Grandview in contention for a team trophy.


East Valley seniors Henry Paul (78) and Ayden Kline (79) are in 17th and 21st, respectively.


In the 2A girls tournament at Chehalis’ Riverside Golf Club, Selah’s Elaine Mower, Selah was sixth after shooting 81 and Bella Cha of Prosser was 10thwith an 86 on the par-71 course.


In the 4A boys tournament at Eagle Pride Golf Course, West Valley’s Pierson Kloster shot a par 73, and is in fifth place, while district champion Mason Bradford posted a 77 and is 24th.


Rams junior Ava Olszewski, winner of three CBBN district titles, finished with a 3-over on The Links course at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie in Lacey. Olszewski was sixth a year ago.


Naches Valley's Lucas Hayes shot 76 and is ninth, while Royal’s Easton Eilers is a shot behind and 10th at the 1A tournament at MeadowWood Golf Course, par 72.


All tournaments wrap up tonight.
