Wahluke, Wapato boys soccer roll to opening victories in 1A state
Wolves get first state win in program history, Warriors in seventh straight tourney

The SCAC started quickly in the Class 1A state boys soccer tournament Tuesday.
Wapato, seeded 13th, rolled past No. 20 Lakeside, 6-1, for its first state victory in program history, and No. 16 Wahluke topped 17th-seeded Eastside Prep, 2-0, in their seventh straight state trip.
Both teams advance to round-of-16 games on Friday.
Michael Bustos recorded a hat trip for the Wolves, who are playing in back-to-back state tournaments for the first time.
Eric Romero tallied a pair of goals, and Oscar Martinez added another for Wapato (14-7), which opened a 3-0 lead before the Eagles notched their goal.
1A STATE BRACKET
Next up for the Wolves is No. 4 seed and SCAC regular-season co-champ and district runner-up Cashmere at 3 p.m. Friday at Wenatchee High School’s Apple Bowl.
The Wolves won the lone matchup between the teams this season, 2-1.
Two-time SCAC MVP Icker Lopez sparked the Warriors’ victory.
The junior netted one goal and assisted on another.
Ethan Moreno had a goal and Alan Nazario an assist for Wahluke (14-6-1), which advances to play top-seeded Cascade of Leavenworth. The match will precede the Wapato-Cashmere contest, kicking off at 1 Friday at the Apple Bowl.
The Kodiaks, which won the District 5 championship, won the regular-season matchup at Wahluke, 4-2.
