Davis coach Cristian Gonzalez can relate to what the Issaquah boys soccer team is about to find out Wednesday evening.

He’s been on the receiving end from the Pirates crowd, a boisterous bunch when the game kickoffs.

“Davis always has a good crowd,” he said. “I went to West Valley, and I always hated playing Davis. They get on you and say stuff – and it’s usually true.”

That smack talk which centers on the game and the officials calls – or perceived miscalls – will back the fourth-seeded Pirates when they host the No. 13 Eagles at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Should Davis advance to the quarterfinals, they’d again host.

It’s acknowledgment of the Pirates winning the CBBN regular-season title and following that with the district championship.

“It was rewarding for the last two months,” Gonzalez said. “They kind of respected our league, and what we did against Wenatchee and Eastmont.”

Davis was 5-0 against the Panthers and the Wildcats, who won the matchup between the two for the CBBN’s second berth to state. Eastmont is seeded seventh and hosts No. 10 Puyallup at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the grass at Wildcats Stadium.

While the Pirates have nine shutouts this season, they’ve proven they won’t wither in a high-scoring game.

They topped perennial power Wenatchee 4-2 in the district final which included two goals from Jaime Alcocer, the second tally a breakaway in the final minutes when he asked back into the game after leaving moments earlier.

“We realized we have to score, because Wenatchee and Eastmont are definitely going to score,” Gonzalez said.

In the 2A playoffs Wednesday, fifth-seeded East Valley will host No. 12 Sehome, while No. 9 Toppenish visits eighth-seeded Nathan Hale in Seattle.

Wapato and Wahluke on Tuesday advanced to the 1A round of 16. Those games ares scheduled for Friday.
