Wenatchee and West Valley again will have strong contingents this weekend at the Class 4A state tennis tournament at Kamiakin High School and The Pacific Campus in Kennewick.
The Rams have four entries, while the Panthers have three.
District champion and Wenatchee sophomore Micah Shattuck returns to state after finishing fourth a year ago.
West Valley’s Pete Kelgley, a doubles state-qualifier last spring, was the district runner-up to advance in singles this season.
On the girls side, the Panthers’ Joyce Hartsig returns in singles, and the Rams’ Lucy Plant again qualified in doubles, this year with Paige Kegley.
Among those headed to the University of Washington’s Nordstrom Tennis Center for the 2A again this season is the Selah doubles team of Caleb Adams and Luke Gates, who advance to the quarterfinals in 2025.
The Yakima Tennis Club hosts the Class 1A-B tournament, and Cashmere’s Albin Eskew, Connell duo Aram Borba and Dalston Schwendiman return on the boys side, while the Bulldogs girls tandem of Lucy Ray and Hazel Schade also are back after falling a match short of medaling a year ago.
