Ellensburg senior-to-be and all-CWAC first-team selection Bella Standish will be staying home for college.

Standish, a 5-9 guard who is second on the Bulldogs all-time scoring list, committed Saturday to play at Central Washington.

She averaged more than 18 points per game for Ellensburg, who finished second in the CWAC before finishing third at the Class 2A state tournament in the Yakima Valley SunDome. Averaging 21 points a contest and putting up 22 points and 14 rebounds in a victory against Clarkston in the trophy round.

Standish sank a conference-best 89 3-pointers and scored in double figures in all 28 games for the Bulldogs, who finished 22-6 and advanced to the state semifinals for the fifth straight year.

She moved into second place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,463 points. She trails her aunt Kayla Standish, a 2008 graduate who finished with 2,076.

While Standish will head to Central next fall, the Wildcats women’s basketball program is bringing back Samantha Bowman as an assistant coach, the school announced last month.

The Zillah graduate 6-foot-3 center is likely headed to the school’s Hall of Fame after her record-setting career in Ellensburg.

Bowman is the GNAC’s all-time leading rebounder, having pulled down 1,219 boards to go along with 1,632 points. She averaged 13.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for her 120-game career that was capped by her being voted unanimously the GNAC Player of the Year following her 2022-23 senior season.

She also captured D2CCA All-America honors, the Roy Lenz National Player of the Year and  the West Region Player of the Year.

After college, Bowman spent two seasons with the Rockhampton Cyclones of the NBL1, averaging a double-double. Last season she starred with the Townsville Flames, and will return to CWU after finishing the season with the Casey Cavaliers, for whom she is putting up nearly 15 points and 14 rebounds a contest.

“I am incredibly grateful to be stepping into this new role in a program that has meant so much to me throughout my time at CWU," Bowman said in a release from the school. "After spending five years here as a player and continuing to support and aid any and all of our other programs, this feels truly special and something I've worked toward for a long time.”
