The West Valley boys basketball team rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit before falling to Cherry Creek. Colo., 54-53, on Sunday to cap its stay at the Section 7 Boys Weekend in Mesa, Ariz.

Rams juniors-to-be Aaustin Birley and Jett Bremerman finished with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Birley added six rebounds and five assists, and Jrayden Whitfield added seven rebounds.

West Valley was 2-2 during the showcase.

At the King’s Summer Shootout, two-time defending Class 4A girls champion Davis fell to 2026 3A runner-up Bellevue, 52-47, in a Sword bracket semifinal.

The Wolverines went on to win the bracket.

Elsewhere at the event Sunday, West Valley fell to Tahoma, 61-49, and Ellensburg dropped a 42-39 decision to Holy Names.

Pak finishes 3-2 on Oregon trip

Yakima Valley won its first three games of a five-game trip to Oregon this weekend.

The Pak opened the three-day visit with a 9-4 victory over Columbia River Gorge on Friday In The Dalles. Alex Morales had a two-run double and Ashton Barnes-Keller added an RBI double.

Yakima Valley swept the Grant Generals on Saturday, with 8-3 and 9-4 wins.

Morales had four hits, including two doubles, and four RBI for the Pak in the opener, and Beau Benjamin and Colby Graham each had two hits and two runs.

Benjamin hit a solo home run and two-run triple in the second game, while Graham and Brendyn Jame each had two hits, and Easton Armstrong knocked in two runs.

The Portland Barbers swept the Pak 4-3 and 1-0 on Sunday.

Lucas Williams had two hits, including a double, and Corbin Goodlake knocked in two runs for Yakima Valley in Sunday’s opener.

The Pak opens league play Wednesday by hosting the Tri-City Titans in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Yakima Valley travels to Tri-City on Thursday for another twin bill.
