Morales, Graham push Pak to second straight win in Reno

West Valley teammates key against Olympia club at Anderson Memorial Tournament

RENO – The Yakima Valley Pak is taking care of business on its annual trip Reno, winning its first two games.


After starting the Josh Anderson Memorial Tournament with an 8-7 victory Wednesday over the host Reno Knights, Yakima Valley on Thursday defeated the Titans from the Olympia area 4-1.


The Titans are coached by former major leaguer and Tumwater coach Lyle Overbay.


Pak left-hander Alex Morales shut down the Titans, giving up just two hits while striking out nine and walking two.


Morales’ West Valley teammate Colby Graham, the CBBN Player of the Year, smacked two doubles and drove in a pair of runs.


Bodie Yale added three hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, and Grady Jansen added two hits, one of them a double.


On Wednesday, Yakima Valley scored five runs in the second inning, three in the fifth and held off Reno in the bottom of the seventh.


Jansen hit a three-run homer in the second inning for the Pak.


Ashton Barnes-Keller doubled twice and drove in two runs, and Lucas Williams had three hits – including a double – and scored twice.


Yakima Valley (13-5) continues pool play Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa, Calif.


Beetles swept by Tri-City

Yakima dropped league doubleheaders Tuesday and Wednesday to Tri-City.


The Titans took two Tuesday at Parker-Faller Field, 15-4 and 16-1.


Nathan Kibbe had three hits and drove in two runs for Yakima in the opener, and Quinton Allen-Greggs added an RBI double.


Braden Albrecht doubled and scored in the second game.


Wednesday at Tri-City, the Titans won 22-4 and 5-3.


Caleb Rutherford doubled twice and drove in three runs, and Albrecht has two hits in the opener for the Beetles.


Blake Gibbons hit a two-run triple, Andrew Serl had two hits including a double, and Rutherford, Albrecht and Kibbe each had two hits for Yakima (6-8).
