YAKIMA – Gonzaga Prep’s Jackson Mott late Sunday afternoon capped his big weekend in the All-State Baseball Series at Yakima Valley College’s Parker-Faller Field.

Mott delivered a one-out RBI double to give Team Baker a 6-5 walk-off victory against Team Rainier in the championship game of the annual two-day event that features about 90 of the state’s top graduating senior baseball players.

For his part, Mott won the Offensive MVP of the weekend. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound first baseman bound for Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif., finished the weekend 6 for 7 with three doubles, a triple and three RBI.

After a pair of blowouts in Saturday’s semifinals, Sunday proved much tighter contests, with Team St. Helens opening the day with a 5-3 victory against Team Adama.

Early, however, Team Baker looked like it could repeat the lopsided victory it posted Saturday against Team Adams.

Franklin Pierce catcher/pitcher hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning. In the second, Central Valley’s Tyson Blake added an RBI single, and Ty Repko of Hanford doubled home a run to stake Team Baker to a 4-0 lead.

That lead held up until the fourth when Team Rainier tied the score with a four-run rally keyed by a two-run single by North Central’s Nick Elliott.

Washington State-bound Connor Coleman of W.F. West pushed Team Baker back into the lead with an RBI double that scored Franklin Pierce’s Jaxon Harpel, who had singled.

Team Baker was three outs away from victory when Woodinville’s Braden Perry led off the top of the eighth with a home run over the right-field wall to again knot the score.

In the bottom of the eighth, a Team Rainier error put Repko on second base. Mott then followed with a blast to center field to end the game/

East Valley’s Brandon Stone reached base on both of his at-bats. After a fielder’s choice put him on first in the fourth, he was hit by a pitch from Othello’s Quade Gonzalez in the sixth.

Gonzalez also reached on a fielder’s choice, and pitched a perfect fifth inning before giving up a run in the sixth. After plunking Stone, he gazed over and checked on his CWAC rival, who was OK.

Huskies pitcher Aiden Garza did not play after winning the MVP of Team Rainier’s victory Saturday against Team St. Helens. Cashmere’s Tom McDevitt, a member of Team Baker, had other commitments Sunday.
