Yakima will return home Tuesday for a league doubleheader vs. Hanford Flames

POST FALLS, Idaho – What started with a bang over the Fourth of July weekend turned into a fizzle for Yakima.


The Beetles dropped their third straight game Sunday at the Spokane Wood Bat Classic, after starting 2-0 in pool play two days earlier.


Yakima fell 9-3 to Alberta, Canada’s Black Gold 47's Custom Vac Services in consolation play Sunday at Post Falls High School.


The Beetles clawed back from a 4-0 deficit after three innings to make it 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth.


However, the Black Gold 47’s broke it open with five runs in their half of the fifth to end the game.


Nathan Kibbe hit a solo home run for Yakima, while his Zillah teammate Caleb Rutherford doubled and scored a run.


On Saturday, the Spokane Expos jumped on the Beetles in the 8 a.m. game to start Saturday's action at Brett James Field in Post Falls. Spokane scored five runs in the bottom of the second and cruised from there, winning 10-1 in five innings.


Braden Albrecht doubled home Rutherford, who had singled with two outs in the top of the third for Yakima’s run.


Playing back-to-back games, the Beetles faced the Spokane Crew, and led early before falling 13-3 in six innings.


Trailing 2-0, Yakima scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.


Kibbe’s double scored Albrecht, who had led off with a walk and stole second and third base. Kibbe would score on Brock Goodell’s single.


Ryker Heeringa grounded into a fielder’s choice, which scored Kyson Bass, who had reached on an error.


Caleb Rutherford had two hits for Yakima (10-15), which returns home Tuesday to face the Hanford Flames in a league dovuleder at Parker-Faller Field starting at 5 p.m.
