Beetles win Firecracker Tournament, Pak advances to final at Pugh

Yakima caps unbeaten weekend at Parker Faller, Yakima Valley to meet Tri-City in final

Yakima pounded out 11 hits and scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Sunday en route to an 11-4 victory against the RBI Dirtbags to win the Firecracker Tournament at Parker Faller Field.


Braden Albrecht had three hits and two runs, Quinton Allen-Greggs singled home two runs, Blake Gibbons doubled and scored twice, Nathan Kibbe had two hits – including a double – and scored two runs, and Kyson Bass added two hits and a pair of RBI for the Beetles..


Ryker Heeringa pitched 3 1/3 hitless innings, striking out four and walking out one in relief of Andrew Roy, who earned the win.


Yakima, which also won the Bob Garretson Sr. Memorial Wood Bat Tournament last month at Parker Faller Field, was 5-0 in the Firecracker and outscored its opponents 66-20.


The Beetles (15-17) head to The Dalles for a Tuesday doubleheader, before hosting The Dalles on Tuesday for another Twin Bill.


Pak rolls into final

Yakima Valley scored in every inning Sunday, including three runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings, and beat the Bellevue-based Boys of Summer to advance to the championship game of the Brandy Pugh Memorial Tournament at Bellevue College.


The Pak (21-9) will meet league rival Tri-City in the Monday night’s title game scheduled for 7 p.m.


Yakima Valley’s 13-hit barrage began at the top of the order with Beau Benjamin collecting three hits, two RBI and a run.


Alex Morales added two doubles, two runs and an RBI, Bodie Yale had three hits and three RBI, Alex Whiteside doubled and scored twice, and Easton Armstrong scored three runs and had a hit and RBI.


The Boys of Summer scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, and had the bases loaded before Brody Roinestad retired the lone batter he faced to end the game.
