Yakima Valley sweeps doubleheader at home, Diamond Cats drop two

Pak pitching keys victories while Beetles win opener; Yakima loses twice at Nationals

SELAH – Yakima Valley returned home Tuesday, and weren’t the most generous of hosts in its nonleague doubleheader against the West Plain Cannons from Medical Lake.


Surrendering just five hits during the twin bill, the Pak swept the Cannons 7-1 and 4-1 at Archer Field at Carlon Park.


Jake Jansen pitched six stellar innings in the opener, giving up just three hits while striking out six batters. Gavin Rose pitched a perfect seventh to close out the victory.


Dylan Kingston tripled, double and scored a run, Alex Morales had two hits – including a double – and drove in two runs, Beau Benjamin had two hits and two runs, and Ashton Barnes-Keller had two hits and two RBI for Yakima Valley.


Brody Roinestad tossed four innings to earn the win in the second game. The left-hander held West Plains to two hits and a run, while fanning three batters against no walks.


Jake Snow tossed two hitless innings, retiring all six batters he faced, and Rose again closed the contest without giving up a hit in the seventh.


Alex Whiteside had hit two and scored two runs, Colby Graham drove in two runs, and Easton Armstrong added two hits and an RBI.


On Monday, Yakima Valley finished second in the Brandy Pugh Memorial Tournament, falling to the Tri-City Titans 8-1 in the championship game.


Bodie Yale doubled in Yakima Valley’s lone run.


The Pak (23-10) hosts Crew 18U out of Liberty Lake in another doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.


Beetles win opener

THE DALLES – Kyson Bass had a two-run single, Caleb Rutherford had two hits, Quinton Allen-Greggs doubled and Andrew Roy singled home a run and Yakima held on for a 4-3 victory Tuesday at The Dalles.


Brock Goodell gave up just one hit in three innings on the mound for the win.


The Dalles rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, before the Beetles held on.


Yakima (16-17) trailed 7-6 after five innings in the second game.


The Beetles host The Dalles on Wednesday for a doubleheader.

Diamond Cats fall at Nashville

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The Yakima Diamond Cats dropped their first two games Tuesday at the USSSA Southeast Nationals.


The Athletics Mercado limited the Diamond Cats two three hits in a 3-0 victory.


Calleigh Sinnes, Kodie Rasmussen and Lilli Van Wagoner all singled for Yakima.


The Diamond Cats fell 6-5 to the Nebraska Venom in their second game.


Lauren Lewis doubled home a run, and Brooklynn Root had a double and scored a run for Yakima (15-7), which meets Explosion Fastpitch to cap pool play.
