VarsityWA’s Todd Milles, the dean of prep sports reporters in Washington state, on Friday wrapped his positional rankings in run up for the 2026 season.

The defensive rankings – linemen, linebackers and defensive backs – were followed by multi-positional players.

Reigning SCAC Defensive Player of the Year Grey Jacobson comes in at No. 12, while fellow seniors Alexander Barreras of Prosser and Royal’s Orlando Santillan come in at 15th and 18th, respectively.

Moses Lake junior John Rainey, the CBBN Defensive Player of the Year, is ranked No. 8, and fellow 11th-graders Jacoby Tait of Cashmere (18th) and Royal’s Jackson Flood (20th) also are ranked.

Versatile Moses Lake running back Elijah Burns is ranked sixth in the multi-positional athletes. Burns totaled more than 1,400 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns, and will be key in new coach Kyler Haneberg’s offense.

Connell junior Adam Mauia is 10th in the list after earning first-team all-SCAC honors as a defensive lineman and third-team as a tight end. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, Mauia also averaged more than 12 points per game on the basketball court, and finished fifth in the shot put at the Class 1A state track meet.

While no CBBN, CWAC or SCAC players were ranked among the defensive backs, three players from the Mid-Columbia Conference were.

Kamiakin senior Michael Kori is third, followed by Chiawana junior Cooper Cissne, who is fifth, and Riverhawks senior Sawyer Sommerville at 16.
