SELAH – Yakima Valley battled past Yakima on Saturday night, sweeping a doubleheader to wrap up the league championship.

With another doubleheader with the Beetles on tap Sunday, the Pak, 8-2 in league play, can finish no worse than tied with the Tri-City Titans. Yakima Valley won three of its four league contests against the Titans.

Yakima, however, hardly made it easy on its longtime rival.

The Pak needed a three-run sixth inning to overcome the Beetles 7-6 in the opener, and overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the nightcap to 10-run-rule Yakima 12-2 to cap the sweep.

The teams meet again at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Parker Faller Field.

Alex Morales delivered a two-run double to key the rally in the sixth of the opener, tyin the score 6-6. An out later, Lucas Williams gave Yakima Valley the lead with a single to score Morales.

Colby Graham had two hits, one of them a two-run double, Ashton Barnes-Keller added three hits and an RBI, Bodie Yale doubled and knocked in a run, and Morales also tripled.

Brody Roinestad pitches 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Brock Goodell had a two-run double for the Beetles, Braden Albrecht collected two hits and scored two runs, Andrew Serl knocked in two runs, Jayj Gallegos and Nathan Kibbe each doubled and scored a run, and Kyson Bass chipped in two hits.

In the nightcap, the Beetles led 2-0 after two and a half innings before the Pak got rolling.

Yakima Valley scored five runs in the third and fourth inning, and added two more in the fifth to end the game.

The Pak used four hits in the first five-run outburst, and took advantage of three walks and a hit batter.

Five more walks keyed the second five-run rally, and Corbin Goodlake added an RBI single.

Yale had two hits – including a double – and three runs for Yakima Valley, Graham added two hits and Williams pushed across three runs.

Morales struck out eight in four innings to earn the win, surrendering one earned run along the way for the Pak (25-10).

Serl doubled and scored a run for the Beetles (17-21).
