Top-seeded Northwest Blazers 17U begins march toward national title

Davis senior Hull scores 14 points to help unbeaten club roll into quarterfinals by 40

HAMILTON, Ohio – The top-seeded Northwest Blazers 17U squad began its march for a national championship in impressive fashion at the GUAA Finals.


After two wins Friday, the Blazers advanced to the quarterfinals with a 74-34 victory against Team Twin Cavinder of Texas on Saturday morning at the Spooky Nook Champion Mill complex.


Davis senior and reigning 4A Player of the Year Cheyenne Hull had 14 points for the Blazers, while Coeur d’Alene, Idaho’s Brookslee Colvin scored a team-high 23 points, and Montana’s Spencer Laird, who is headed to Stanford, added 18. Prosser’s Herbie Wright, the CWAC MVP and two-time scoring champion, also plays for the Northwest's top club.


The Blazers, who are unbeaten, opened the event by beating FBC United Reign, 58-29, and followed that with a 77-56 victory against the Comets of the Philadelphia/Delaware area.


A Sunday morning quarterfinal against IGB from Indiana against the Blazers, who would also play a semifinal Sunday should they win. The championship game is set for Monday.


The program’s 17U Rise Team, which features Zillah’s Angelina Buck, SCAC MVP Makenna Klitzke and Bella Valadez, and 15U, featuring Prosser sophomore Mickey Wright, have won 2 of 3 games at the event.
