Royal boys basketball coach Tim Ravet is facing felony criminal charges in Tennessee after a March arrest in Nashville.

Ravet, who guided the Knights to a third-place finish in the Class 1A state tournament March 7 at the Yakima Valley SunDome, was arrested two days later in Nashville charged with public intoxication and felony assault on a member of law enforcement.

The alleged incident occurred at Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk & Rock  N’ Roll Steakhouse and involved a physical altercation with an off-duty police officer who works security at the establishment, according to court papers.

According to Davidson County court filings, Ravet is set to again appear for trial Oct. 5 in front of Judge Marcus Floyd. Nashville attorney Nick Schulenberg is listed as representing Ravet.

In a message late Friday afternoon, Royal High School athletic director Cody Miller wrote, “The district does not comment on personnel,” and deferred further questions to Royal School District Superintendent Roger Trail.

In emails earlier this week to the Yakima Herald-Republic sports department, Trail said the district “became aware of the matter only recently.”

Ravet guided the Knights to the state semifinals in his first year at the helm. Their only losses were to league rival Zillah.

With SCAC Player of the Year Grant Wardenaar leading a strong group of returners, Royal is expected to be a state favorite.

Ravet guided his alma mater Kittitas to three consecutive Class 2B state championships 2017-19) with his son Brock Ravet leading the way and eventually becoming the state’s all-time leading scorer.

He then returned to the sidelines to lead the Ellensburg girls program, capturing the 2023 championship – the second straight unbeaten season for the Bulldogs – and runner-up finishes to Lynden the following two seasons.
