The march toward conference championships began in the CWAC on Tuesday, with the volleyball teams in the CBBN also opening league play.

Ellensburg won its 57th straight match against a CWAC with a sweep Tuesday against Othello. The Bulldogs, who also have captured four straight district championships, were runners-up at the Class 2A state tournament last November.

In the inaugural coaches poll, Ellensburg was tied with Archbishop Murphy for second behind defending state champion Lynden. The Wildcats topped the Bulldogs in four sets Saturday at EHS.

Ellensburg heads to rival Selah a week from Thursday for its annual CWAC showdown.

The Vikings had a conference bye Tuesday, falling to six-time defending 1A champion Chelan in nonleague four-setter.

Wenatchee, which has won five straight CBBN titles opened conference play with a four-set victory against Eastmont. The fifth-ranked Panthers have finished third in the last two state tournaments after winning the 2023 state championship.

Class 1A No. 1-ranked Cashmere, which hasn’t lost a conference match since joining the SCAC, improved to 6-0 in league action by Wahluke.

Eighth-ranked Connell kept pace with the Bulldogs, with a four-set victory against College Place. The Eagles host Cashmere next Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Eisenhower posted a key CBBN victory against Eisenhower, 2-0. The Cadets are 3-0 in conference play, keyed by Vianey Esquivel, who set the school career scoring record this past weekend with her 41st goal.

Defending CWAC champion East Valley opened conference action with a 3-0 victory against Prosser, while Selah – the 2025 runner-up – had a bye, falling to Moses Lake in nonleague action.

Cashmere remained perfect in SCAC play, 6-0, with a 5-1 victory against Wahluke. Royal is on the heels of the Bulldogs at 5-0-1.

The Knights visit Cashmere on Thursday.

Conference play in the Mid-Columbia Conference begins Thursday for girls soccer and Oct. 1 in volleyball.
