Two of the SCAC’s juggernauts – Royal football and Cashmere volleyball sit atop state rankings and the WIAA’s RPI in their respective sports.
The Knights, who matched their program record with a 53rdstraight victory Saturday, have won the last six Class 1A state championships and are the favorite for their seventh this fall.
They again hold down the top spot in the VarsityWA state rankings, and are 11th in the all-classifications top 25.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs volleyball team remained No. 1 in the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association, and own the top spot in the RPI.
The RPI – or Ratings Percentage Index – ranks team using a formula that accounts for a team’s winning percentage, the winning percentage of the team’s opponents, and the winning percentage of the opponent’s opponents.
Cashmere, which is 10-0 in SCAC play and repeated as small-school champ at the SunDomeVolleyball Festival, hosts six-time defending champion Chelan in a nonconference showdown Thursday.
The Goats outlasted the Bulldogs twice last year, including a five-set thriller in the 1A state semifinals in the Yakima Valley SunDome. Cashmere was without standout livero Mandy Barba, who is headed to Seattle Pacific, in that match.
The Bulldogs, who like their volleyball counterparts have not lost a conference since joining the SCAC, is No. 3 in the WIAA RPI. There are no coaches rankings for girls soccer.
