Charges against Royal boys basketball coach stemming from a March incident in Nashville, Tenn., are set to be dropped Thursday morning, according to the Davidson County clerk’s office.
Ravet, who guided the Knights to a third-place finish this past winter at the Class 1A state tournament after winning three 2B boys championships at Kittitas and a 2A girls title at Ellensburg, will appear remotely at Thursday’s proceeding to make the agreement official.
A bench trial originally was scheduled for Monday morning before an agreement was reached to drop the charge which included a felonious count of assaulting a law enforcement official and another for public intoxication, the clerk’s office confirmed Wednesday.
Ravet was arrested March 9 – two days after the Knights finished their state tournament run – in Nashville.Nashville attorney Nick Schulenberg represented Ravet in the proceedings in front of Judge Marcus Floyd
In a message late Wednesday afternoon, Royal High School athletic director Cody Miller wrote, “The district does not comment on personnel,” and deferred further questions to Royal School District Superintendent Roger Trail.
Ravet guided the Knights to the state semifinals in his first year at the helm. Their only losses were to league rival Zillah.
With SCAC Player of the Year Grant Wardenaar leading a strong group of returners, Royal is expected to be a state favorite.
Ravet guided his alma mater Kittitas to three consecutive Class 2B state championships 2017-19) with his son Brock Ravet leading the way and eventually becoming the state’s all-time leading scorer.
He then returned to the sidelines to lead the Ellensburg girls program, capturing the 2023 championship – the second straight unbeaten season for the Bulldogs – and runner-up finishes to Lynden the following two seasons.
