Chiawana’s march toward its fifth Class 4A slowpitch championship will begin Friday afternoon at Yakima’s Kiwanis Park from the No. 1 seed in the bracket.

The Riverhawks, runners-up in last year’s tournament to end a four-year title run, were awarded the top seed Sunday after winning the District 6 championship last week and compiling a 19-1 record.

They’ve won four straight since dropping an 8-7 decision to 2025 champ Moses Lake.

Second-year head coach Aaron Cantu will lead his Mid-Columbia Conference champions into a 3 p.m. Friday opener against No. 8 Woodinville, which enters the tournament with an 11-6 record with half of its losses coming against second-seeded Juanita.

CBBN regular-season and district champion Eastmont is seeded third and will play at 1 Friday against North Creek. The Wildcats (16-3) have won 13 games in a row after a three-game skid in September that included a pair of losses to Chiawana.

West Valley, which advanced to the semifinals of last year’s tournament and shared third place with three other teams after rain forced relocation of the event to the Rams’ home facilities, are seeded fifth.

After trying for second place with Moses Lake in conference play, West Valley (14-3) was seeded third in the district tournament, and won a pair of loser-out contests before outslugging the Mavericks, 22-18, at Moses Lake in a winner-to-state contest.

The Rams are seeded fifth and will open against No. 4 Skyview.

Semifinals are set for 9 a.m. Saturday with the championship at 3.

In the 3A/2A tournament, Mt. Spokane – which has won all three tournaments held – is seeded No. 1.
