Lining up for state: A postseason roadmap for the area's fall teams

Breakdown of the girls soccer and volleyball district tournaments, football Week 10 formats

STAT HOUND

Oct 20, 2026

The CWAC on Tuesday night became the first league to wrap up conference play with the conclusion of the regular season in girls soccer and volleyball.

An eight-team tournament for soccer will begin Saturday with the volleyball tourney revving up Oct. 28.

While girls soccer and volleyball play tournaments, state playoffs in football will be decided in Week 10 for Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A. The three larger classifications will have 32 teams playing for 16 spots, while 24 hopefuls will vie for the 12 spots in the 1A bracket.

Here’s a breakdown of the playoff formats for football, girls soccer and volleyball in the CBBN, MCC, CWAC and SCAC:

FOOTBALL
CBBN

Number of teams in the round-of-32 play-ins: Four.

2025 CBBN state playoff qualifiers (placing/how far it went): Moses Lake (quarterfinalist).

Overview: The four berths aren’t set in stone, but there would need to be an upset or two to change things. West Valley and Wenatchee play in week nine in a matchup that will likely decide the third berth.

MCC 4A

Number of teams in the round-of-32 play-ins: Two, with the third-place team playing the third-place team from the Greater Spokane League for the District 6’s fifth spot in the round of 32.

MCC 3A

Number of teams in the round-of-32 play-ins: Two, with the third-place team playing the third-place team from the Greater Spokane League for the District 6’s fifth spot in the round of 32.

2025 CBBN state playoff qualifiers (placing/how far it went): Kennewick (quarterfinalist), Southridge (first round).

Overview: Of all the classifications, this is the one with the most left to decide. At 5-0 in conference play, the Suns have the inside track to the MCC’s top spot in the round of 32.

CWAC

Number of teams in the round-of-32 play-ins: Four.

Top contenders for play-in (RPI, VarsityWA, AP, Coaches Poll): Selah (3, 8, 8, 8), Prosser (7, 5, 6, 7), East Valley (11, UR, UR, UR), Othello (22, , UR, UR, UR).

SCAC
