Royal receiver-defensive back Shea Stevenson was named the Class 1A Player of the Year by multiple outlets this week after helping the Knights to their sixth straight championship.

The Washington State Football Coaches Association named Stevenson’s 1A’s top player a day after VarsityWA did the same.

The senior had 48 receptions for 876 yards and 17 touchdowns and added two defensive scores to help the Knights run their winning streak to 48 games and capped a 13-0 season by edging SCAC rival Cashmere 21-20 in the championship game at Husky Stadium.

Sevenson also was named to The (Tacoma) News Tribune all-classifications all-state team, and was the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year.

Royal coach Wiley Allred also was named the 1A Coach of the Year by both organizations. The Hall of Fame coach with more than 300 career victories has guided the Knights to 13 championships.

One of the players who spent his high career trying to catch Allred’s Knights – Cashmere defensive lineman Prin Fox – was named the WSFCA’s 1A defensive player of the year.

Fox has signed to play collegiately at UNLV.

The SCAC was well-represented on the WSFCA team with Cashmere quarterback Rylan Hatmaker,

offensive lineman Ulysses Betancourt and receiver Logan Speis were selected on offense, and joined by Royal offensive lineman Abel Garcia.

Hatmaker threw for 2,534 yards and 38 touchdowns, while Spies caught 55 passes for 915 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Defensively, Bulldogs junior and SCAC Defensive Player of the Year Grey Jacobson made the team on the defensive line, and was joined by teammate Jacoby Tait (LB), Royal’s Orlando Santillan (DL),

Brody Bishop (LB) and Grant Wardenaar (DB), and Zillah defensive lineman Nathan Kibbe.

Cashmere returner Isaac Zavala, who finished his career with a state-record 11 punt returns for touchdowns, and kicker Edgar Reyna also made the team.
