Prosser scoring machine Herbie Wright will be an Eagle.
The reigning CWAC Player of the Year and two-time conference scoring machine on Saturday announced her commitment to Eastern Washington.
Her pledge to the Eagles caps a stellar junior year in which she set the Yakima Valley’s single-game record with 57 points, moved to second on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,683 points with her senior season left, and led the Mustangs to their fifth straight semifinal berth and first championship game appearance since 2011.
For all of the on-court accolades, Prosser coach Jessica Huntington – an EWU alum – said the school is getting as much in character.
“She has been a phenomenal student athlete for Prosser, and has obviously been a huge part of our team’s growth and success,” Huntington said. “EWU is getting not just a tremendous player but an even better person. She works hard, is ultra-competitive and is always looking for ways to improve. They got a good one.”
Wright was the runner-up to Lynden’s Finley Parcher for Class 2A state tournament MVP honors, and was a 2A all-state first-teamer.
She will head into her senior season needing 248 points to pass Mustangs legend and assistant coach Tamara Jones as the program’s all-time scorer. Jones capped her career with 1,930 points and the 2011 Class 2A state championship in the SunDome.
If Wright continues at her junior pace – 26.2 points per game – she should pass the mark around the holiday break.
The Mustangs will enter the 2026-27 season as the team to beat in the CWAC after finishing 15-1 in conference play, and one of the top threats to unseat Lynden, which has won 75 straight games and three state titles in a row.
At Eastern Washington, Wright will join Davis standout Nevaiah “Deets” Parrish, who is headed to Cheney this coming fall after helping the Pirates to a second straight 4A state championship.
Parrish and Wright trained together under Yakima Valley College men’s coach London Wilson, and played together in a few tournaments.
Huntington, who started 84 of her 117 games for the Eagles and ranks fourth in career assists (414) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (167), is excited for Wright and her alma mater.
“I am very proud of her and know that she will be a great fit at EWU,” the former East Valley star said. “Of course, I’m thrilled she will be going to play at a place that meant so much to me.”
