PROSSER – Prosser junior Herbie Wright is on pace to become the school’s all-time leading scorer.

If she has many more games like Tuesday night, she’ll have that record by season’s end.

Wright poured in a Yakima Valley-record 57 points and the third-ranked Mustangs won their eighth straight CWAC blowout, a 98-55 victory against Toppenish.

The outburst tops the 52 points scored by Yakama Tribal’s Lyndell Wapsheli scored against Klickitat nearly 12 years ago.

Wright blew past the school record 44 points scored against Ellensburg during the 1991-92 season. Future Olympic heptathlete Kelly Blair netted 43 against Royal in the 1988-89 season.

With 33 points in her previous two games, Wright (1,460 points) has moved past Blair (1,430) into third place in the school’s all-time scoring list.

Only Jordan Brown (1,485) and Tamara Jones (1,930) remain ahead of Wright.

Two games after scoring 13 of her 33 points in the first quarter of a 74-47 victory against seventh-ranked Ellensburg, Wright started quickly again Tuesday, scoring 16 points in the opening quarter, and went into halftime with 26.

She added 15 points in the third, and another 16 in the fourth.

Wright made 16 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and all seven of the free throws she shot.

Prosser improved to 13-1 in CWAC play, and 16-3 overall. The Mustangs visit sixth-ranked Selah next Tuesday, looking to avenge their only conference loss of the season.

Wright's record comes three weeks after Mabton's Armando Chavez scored 60 points in a nonleague victory to break the record of 55 points by Kittitas' Brock Ravet in February 2018.
