Four teams in VarsityWA poll as baseball postseason opens

Cashmere No. 2 in 1A, Othello third on 2A and are top-seeded in distirct

May 4, 2026

With the CWAC and SCAC district tournaments beginning this week and the CBBN wrapping up the regular season, four baseball teams are ranked in this week’s VarsityWA polls.

Cashmere (15-1 SCAC, 20-1 overall) is No. 2 in the Class 1A top 10, with Montesano atop the poll.

The Bulldogs, who shared the SCAC regular-season with Zillah after the two split a doubleheader last month, is the top in the district bracket and opens play Thursday by hosting eighth-seeded Omak.

A state quarterfinalist a year ago, Cashmere has a good chance of hosting a regional Saturday, May 23 with a district title.

Standing in the Bulldogs’ way could be the Leopards, who are No. 6 in the rankings. Zillah (15-1 SCAC, 16-4 overall) entertains College Place on Thursday to open the district tourney.

Othello, which Saturday capped a 15-1 run through a tough CWAC schedule, is No. 3 in 2A. The Huskies (15-1 CWAC, 18-3 overall) are the district top seed and open the tournament Tuesday when  they host No. 4 Selah.

Ellensburg and East Valley, the No. 2 and 3 seeds in the CWAC district tournament, were just outside the top 10.

West Valley (15-0 CBBN, 18-0 overall) won’t begin the CBBN district tournament for another 11 days, but already has locked up the No. 1 seed. The Rams, the only unbeaten in 4A, is up to No. 4 in the poll.

They’ll try to complete another 18-0 trek through the conference this week with three games against Wenatchee, which is tied for second place with Eastmont.
