There was little movement in the Stat Hound Power Rankings as the top teams took care of business.
Kennewick rebounded from its first loss of the season by outlasting Sageview, 42-35, to knock the Lobos from the ranks of the unbeaten.
In the only other matchup involving top-10 teams, Cashmere rolled past Zillah in a matchup for the presumptive runner-up behind six-time defending state champion Royal.
So with little shakeup, here’s the Power rankings with Week 6 play starting Thursday night:
1. Royal
Last week: 1. Record: 5-0.
The Knights matched the program record with their 53 straight victory, and will now start chipping away toward Bellevue’s state record of 67 in a row.
2. Eastmont
Last week: 2. Record: 5-0.
It was another dominating performance against Eisenhower for the Wildcats, who head to West Valley this Friday with two-time-defending conference champ Moses Lake looming Oct. 23.
3. Southridge
Last week: 3. Record: 4-1.
The Suns made the trip to Hermiston another statement that they could be the class of the Mid-Columbia Conference, with a visit to upstart Sageview next week.
4. Prosser
Last week: 4. Record: 5-0.
Mustangs have scored 47 or more points in four of their games this season, while not giving up more than 8 points in any contest.
5. Kennewick
Last week: 2. Record: 4-1.
Lions kept themselves in the thick of the race by rebounding from a fourth-quarter letdown against Richland the week before.
6. Chiawana
Last week: 6. Record: 4-1.
The Riverhawks host Kamiakin in a contest in which the winner stays in the race for the MCC championship, while the loser drops way behind.
7. Moses Lake
Last week: 8. Record: 4-1.
A week after running Elijah Burns had a career night, it was quarterback Nolan Decubber who enjoyed his own stat-stuffer with seven TD passes in a victory against Post Falls.
8. Cashmere
Last week: 9. Record: 4-1.
The Bulldogs solidified their hold on second place in the SCAC with a dominating performance at Zillah, including three more touchdowns for Ethan Bessonette.
9. Selah
Last week: 10. Record: 5-0.
Another monster night by senior running back Calen Wuitschick helped the Vikings battle past eighth-ranked West Valley of Spokane in their biggest test of the season.
10. Sageview
Last week: 9. Record: 4-1.
Kennewick handed the Lobos their first loss of the season, but the high-powered offense continues to fuel hopes of a postseason berth in the program’s second year.
11. Kamiakin
Last week: 7. Record: 3-2.
The reward for the Braves ending their two-game slide by edging Walla Walla? A trip to defending MCC champion Chiawana.
12. East Valley
Last week: 12. Record: 5-0.
The Red Devils’ back-loaded schedule revs up with perennial CWAC power Othello coming to town, with matchups with Selah and Prosser still to come.
