Davis girls, West Valley boys entrenched at No. 1

Unbeaten Leopards on Rams' heels, CWAC, Zillah in pursuit of Pirates

With the big matchups left to holiday events or nonleague matchups, there was little movement in the top 10s.

The CBBN front-runners – West Valley's boys and Davis' girls – have solid grips on the top spots, but unbeaten Zillah is keeping the heat on the Rams.

BOYS

1. West Valley (–): A 100-point game against Class 3A No. 6 Bellevue showed that the Rams are firing on all cylinders.

2. Zillah (–): The Leopards escaped Royal unbeate on X Castilleja’s last-second heroics with a two-game pad atop the SCAC.

3. Selah (–): With the flu bug hopefully done with the Viks, a holiday misstep against 3A Mercer Island, seventh in the RPI, doesn’t hurt them.

4. Grandview (–): A light week with only one game, the Greyhounds took care of business with a lopsided win at Ephrata.

5. Royal (+1): The Knights took down fifth-ranked Chelan on the road and had No. 1 Zillah on the ropes, solidifying themselves as 1A contender.

6. Moses Lake (-1): The Mavericks handled Davis last Friday and finish the first half of conference play Friday with a trip to Sunnyside with second place on the line.

7. Sunnyside (–): The Grizzlies won twice last week – edging Davis on Aiden Sanchez’s free throws, and beating Eastmont at home – and have Moses Lake visiting this Friday.

8. Wapato (+1): Wolves fell at 1B No. 5 Tulalip Heritage but are half a game behind Royal for second place in the SCAC, and visit the Knights on Saturday.

9. Ellensburg (+1): The Bulldogs were idle this past week but visit Prosser on Friday with third place on the line.

10. Cashmere (unranked): A state qualifier last year, the Bulldogs cooled off Connell, and won a pair of nonleaguers.

GIRLS

1. Davis (–): The top-ranked Pirates battled past 4A No. 6 Lake Washington and then handled top-ranked 1A Zillah to solidify their grip on the top spot.

2. Prosser (–): The Mustangs have won five straight and lead top-heavy CWAC by a game. Old nemesis Ellensburg visits Friday.

3. Grandview (+1): There was no letdown for the Greyhounds after the big win at Selah, as the Grandview gave up 24 points in each of the last two games.

4. Zillah (-1): The top-ranked Leopards won at Royal to take control of the SCAC, and added to their RPI by visiting Davis.

5. Selah (–): The Vikings bounce back from the loss to Grandview with three losses by more than 42 points a contest.

6. Ellensburg (–): A six-game winning streak will be tested this week with a trip to Prosser on Friday and a visit from Grandview on Saturday.

7. Wapato (–): The Wolves are solidly in second place in the SCAC, and have a shot to extend that edge with a trip to Royal on Saturday.

8. Royal (–): The Knights have won 8 of 10 games with losses to top-ranked Zillah the only blemishes.

9. West Valley (–): The Rams have won five straight in conference to push their record and have two more games before a visit to top-ranked Davis.

10. Toppenish (–): The Wildcats have hit a tough rugged stretch of their schedule with home games against Ellensburg, Prosser and Selah, and a trip to 1A No. 3 King’s.
