A pair of juniors – Selah’s Oliver Pepper and Prosser’s Herbie Wright – were named the CWAC Most Valuable Players late Thursday afternoon.
Pepper averaged nearly 25 points per game in leading the Vikings to an undefeated run through conference play and the No. 3 seed in the Class 2A state tournament, where they’ll open Saturday morning at 10 against sixth-seeded Anacortes at Davis High School.
He was joined on the first team by Selah teammate JR DePell, while district champion Grandview placed Frankie Medina and Braden Santos on the first team.
The Vikings’ Jordan Starr was voted the Coach of the Year.
Wright topped the conference in scoring, averaging 27.5 points a contest, and led the Mustangs to the regular-season and district titles. She also set the Yakima Valley single-game scoring record, pouring in 57 points in a January game against Toppenish.
Prosser, which has won 13 straight games, is seeded third and opens state play at 6 p.m. Friday against No. 6 W.F. West at Grandview High School.
Wright was joined on the first team by teammate Deidra Phillips, while Ellensburg’s Bella Standish, Ellie Markus and Molly Moffat all were first-teamers.
Selah’s Ray Navarro was the girls Coach of the Year.
