Zillah’s Dekker Van De Graaf, who battled back from an early season ankle injury to lead the Leopards to a runner-up finish in the Class 1A state tournament earlier this month in the Yakima Valley SunDome, was named the 1A Player of the Year on Wednesday by VarsityWA.

Last week, Van De Graaf was named the WIBCA 1A Player of the Year, honoring the top senior.

The two-time SCAC Player of the Year was named to the all-classification third team, and was joined in that distinction by West Valley’s Parker Mills.

Mills, who has signed to play football at Washington State, was the CBBN Player of the Year, and earned all-conference first-team honors four times.

In Class 2A, Grandview’s Frankie Medina and Selah’s Oliver Pepper were honored.

Medina topped the Class 2A state tournament in scoring, and led the Greyhounds to a sixth-place finish in the SunDome. He also earned the WIBCA 2A Player of the Year honors last week.

Pepper was voted the CWAC MVP after leading the Vikings to an unbeaten run through conference play.

Royal junior Grant Wardenaar earned a spot in the 1A. The quarterback on the Knights’ state championship football team, was voted the SCAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring.

Rainier Beach’s Tyran Stokes was named the overall and the 3A Player of the Year, and Bremerton’s Jalen Davis was on the all-classification team and the 2A Player of the Year after leading the Knights to their second title in a row.

The girls team will be released Thursday.
