HAMILTON, Ohio – The Northwest Blazers 17U capped its undefeated season Monday morning with the national championship at the GUAA Finals.

The Blazers, who won their six games at the event by nearly 23 points per game, capped off the tournament by handling FBC United to win the championship, 73-59 at the Spooky Nook Champion Mill.

“We’re a little sad because it’s our last ride together,” Davis senior Cheyenne Hull, one of four Blazers ranked in the top 70 of ESPN’s 100 best players in the class of 2027, said in a post on the program’s Instagram page. “But we finished strong, so we’re really happy about that.”

They celebrated their championship spraying sparkling cider on each other, mimicking the revelry of professional teams. Program founder and the 17U coach Steve Klees wrote the team’s name on the giant bracket while being showered with silly string.

The team is a star-studded collection of players, with Hull, the two-time CBBN and 4A state tournament MVP for the state champions, is ranked the 69th best player in the class of 2027 by ESPN, and is choosing from several schools.

Lynden’s Finley Parcher Parcher is ranked 27th in the class of 2027. The 6-foot-1 guard was the 2A player of the year in volleyball as she helped the Lions to the state championship, before repeating as tournament MVP in the winter in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Coeur d’Alene High School point guard Brookslee Colvin is the highest-rated Blazer recruit, coming in at No. 25. Colvin hasn’t committed, but has offers from around the country, including one from Gonzaga in neighboring Spokane.

Spencer Laird, a 6-2 wing from Loyola Sacred Heart in Missoula who is ranked 46th in the class and is headed to Stanford.

And Prosser’s Herbie Wright, the Eastern Washington-bound senior who has won the last two CWAC scoring titles and was voted the conference MVP in part because of a Yakima Valley-record 57 points in a league matchup this past winter, also is part of the lineup.

Somehow, the team is more than the sum its highly touted parts.

The team-first approach has had the Blazers running roughshod on opponents.

“If you can get kids to play together at any level, you can win,” Klees said before taking the Blazers to the Run 4 Roses Classic in Louisville, Ky., where they beat the West Virginia Thunder, another squad that considers itself a top club team in the country, 80-60, on ESPN2 earlier this month.
